Marlene Ann Spaulding Luther of East Concord, NY died Saturday, May 5, 2018 at her residence at the age of 78.

She was born August 23, 1939 in Gowanda, NY a daughter of the late Fred Max and Florence Ruth (nee Rogers) Ortel. She was a member of the Curriers Seventh Day Adventist Church and was the President of the Alumni Association in Collins Center. She was also a member of the Springville and Sardinia Senior Citizens. She was a caregiver to many senior citizens and she welcomed them into her home where she was able to provide care to them on a personal and private basis for at least 25 years. Prior to her home care, she took in many foster kids and welcomed them into her home as well.

Marlene had worked in the laundry department at the Gowanda State Hospital. She was also a beautician and worked out of her home in Collins Center and later in East Concord. She had also cleaned various homes and office buildings in the area.

She is survived by her husband: Calvin Luther who she married in 1995; her daughter: Ronda (Gerard) Boucher of Cumberland, RI; her siblings: Michael (Lynn) Ortel of Phoenix, AZ, John (Heidi) Ortel of Walworth, WI, Bill (Louise) Smith of Rockford, IL, Don (Sheila) Smith of Berrien Springs, MI and Barb (Forrest) Howe of Calimesa, CA; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her first husband - Morris Spaulding..

Friends may call Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11 AM at the Curriers Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5709 Curriers Rd., Arcade, NY 14009. She will be interred in Collins Center Cemetery.
