Loyd Edwin Rumfola, 94, of Springville passed away peacefully at his Vaughn St. home Wednesday, May 16, 2018.
He was born in Springville, December 15, 1923 to the late Joseph Lloyd and Alma (nee Erdmann) Rumfola.
Loyd was a farmer, carrying on the tradition of his parents and grandparents before him, despite once being offered to try out for the role of Tarzan in Hollywood by his friend Jack Yellen. He enjoyed training harness racing horses, raising livestock, repairing equipment and working the family land on Vaughn St., Old Rt. 219, Pratham Rd. and at Liberty Corners. Though largely retired for the past twenty years, he still acted as overseer of his farm and used his lawn tractor to compensate for his limited mobility in later life. He was fortunate to be healthy enough to prepare his land for planting vegetables right up to the current, 2018 season. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family on his front porch and was able to do so until his last day.
In addition to his parents, Loyd was preceded in death by a sister, two brothers, and his wife Stella A (nee Rudnicki) Rumfola whom he was married to for over seventy years, when she passed away in 2015.
Loyd is survived by his three children, Joseph L. (Kathleen) Rumfola II of East Concord, Cheryl Rumfola of Springville, and Susan (Wilton) Cochran of Machias; 6 grandchildren, Richard (Donna) Rumfola, Ellen (Jonathan) Krzemien, Joseph L. (Jennifer) Rumfola III, Derrick (Jennifer) Cochran, Tania Cochran, and Brad (Jessica) Countryman; 7 great-grandchildren, Jessica (Luis) Rodriguez, Jordan Beatty, Charles Rumfola, Maria Rumfola, Natalie Rumfola, Cortnee Cochran and Abel Cochran; two great-great grandchildren, Milana and Luis Rodriguez; 2 sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
