Obituary for Leonard J. Stachowiak Sr.
Leonard Joseph Stachowiak Sr. of Springville, NY entered Heavenly life on Sunday, December 17th , age 86, surrounded by his loving family in his home.
Beloved husband of June (nee Zukowski) Stachowiak for 60 years; cherished father of Sharon (James) Urbaniak, Leonard Jr. (Kelly) Stachowiak, Scott (Molly) Stachowiak; proud grandfather of Amelia and Alyssa Stachowiak; brother-in-law of Pauline Stachowiak and Eve Zukowski, uncle of two nieces and two nephews. He will be reunited with his son, Thomas, and brother, Francis.
Lenny’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was active at SI. Aloysius Parish. In 1945, he graduated from St. Aloysius School and was an altar server for Msgr. Zimmerman. As a young adult, he prayed the rosary weekly at Holy Hour. He was a Holy Name Society member, worked Bingo, barbecued chicken for the lawn fetes (even on his birthday) and was an usher weekly.
Lenny served in the United States Navy on escort carriers U.S.S. Badoeng Strait, Rendova, and the Bairoko. As a 50-year member of the American Legion Concord Post 431, Lenny served as commander, Boy’s State Chairman, bingo worker and in the Color Guard. He received the 2012 Legionnaire of the Year award.
He was an inspector for 37 ½ years at the Ford Motor Company. Lenny played baseball in high school, the Navy and on the Mortons Corners town team. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes at the Concord Club. He liked to fish, hunt and watch sports. He supported fire companies and churches by playing bingo.
Friends may call Friday, December 22, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home- 271 E. Main St., Springville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 23 at 11 AM at the St. Aloysius Church.
